Only soft carriers are accepted, as long as they can be fit under the passenger seat and comply with the dimensions provided above.

Service restrictions

  • Cats and dogs of under 8 weeks of age are not accepted, as their size makes them more prone to dehydration during the transport. Please keep in mind that the minimum required number of weeks of age allowed for the entry to a given country may vary according to regulation set at the destination. Therefore, we suggest researching all of this information beforehand.

Keep in mind

  • Pets may only be transported in the baggage hold if they comply with the following conditions:
  • Length of the flight Maximum weight of the pet*

Less or equal to 4 hours

    20 kilograms

    From 4 to 5 hours

    10 kilograms

*Does not include weight of the container.

  • We accept cats and dogs.
  • We do not transport live exotic birds, protected or endangered species in the cabin or in the baggage hold.
  • Service is not available on flights operated by Embraer.
  • If your flight has a connection or if you have more than one flight to arrive to your destination, each one of these segments may not exceed 4 hours when the pet does not exceed 20 kilograms or from 4 to 5 hours when the pet does not exceed 10 kilograms (does not include the weight of the container).
  • Dogs and cats younger than 8 weeks are not accepted as checked baggage, because, due to their size, they are more vulnerable to dehydration during flight. Keep in mind that the minimum number of weeks allowed for entry of a pet into a territory may vary in accordance to the regulations set forth by the destination country; thus, we suggest you get informed first.
  • Dogs of breeds considered dangerous or aggressive are accepted as checked baggage with the following conditions:
    • The breeds allowed considered dangerous or aggressive with a height of 35 cm or more must travel in the baggage hold and in a container with metallic walls. The container will not be opened during the flight; thus, it must have devices manufactured with non-toxic materials that allow feeding and hydration of the animal.
    • If, for any reason you do not wish to transport your pet in the container with metallic walls, it is mandatory, without exception, that the animal use a basket muzzle.
    • You must consult and comply with the requirements set forth for import and export required at each destination country.
    • Keep in mind that, although the airline accepts transportation of pets of dangerous breeds, sanitary regulations in each country may restrict entry of the animal and the Airline is not responsible for further actions from the sanitary authority.
  • For flights operated by A330 and Boeing 787, pets on storage are allowed up to 46 kg of weight (including the weight of the container) and there is no restriction of time of flight.
  • Only one animal per container may travel.
  • The size of the container must allow the pet to stand, turn and lie down easily and naturally at any time.
  • Weight of the container must not exceed 10 kilograms.

Special considerations

For the safety of your pet, dogs and cats’ breeds that are brachiocephalic (with very narrow nostrils) are not allowed, because they are susceptible of suffering asphyxia and respiratory problems when they are exposed to stress or heat.

If your pet does not have this condition you may transport it, even if it is part of the list of breeds that are predisposed to suffer from this condition. You only need to submit a certificate signed by a veterinarian and sign a document at the airport that certify that your pet does not have that syndrome.
