Avianca makes adjustments to its operation in Florida and the Caribbean
Bogota, September 8, 2017. Extreme weather conditions caused by Hurricane Irma have had a significant impact on air operations in Florida and the Caribbean. In response to this situation, Avianca had to make adjustments to its operations to destinations in the affected areas for flights originating in Colombia, Peru, El Salvador, Guatemala, Managua and San Pedro Sula.
Caribbean Operation: The Airline cancelled flights AV254 and AV255 on the Bogota – Havana – Bogota route; AV958 and AV959 on the Lima – Havana – Lima route and AV450 and AV451 on the El Salvador – Havana – El Salvador route for Saturday, September 9 due to operational restrictions resulting from intense rain and strong wind gusts.
The Airline also cancelled its operations on the Bogota – San Juan – Bogota route on September 6 and 7 and its flights between Bogota and Lima to Santo Domingo and Punta Cana on Thursday, September 7.
Florida Operation: Avianca had to cancel its operation to Miami, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10 due to operational restrictions at the Airports in these cities.
Additional Flights: In an effort to minimize how passengers are affected, the Airline has scheduled additional flights between Bogota and Miami, Punta Cana and Santo Domingo, as follows:

Penalty Waiver: Considering the situation, Avianca will waive penalties for date changes for passengers with reservations on flights between September 5 and 12, to and from the Dominican Republic and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Havana, Cuba; Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, United States.
Passengers affected by the above restrictions may change their date of travel until October 31, 2017, except for October 1 through 17.
Showing up at Florida airports: The airline recommends that travelers with flights in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando seek service at travel agencies and through the Call Center. Area airports are restricted and there will be no service points available.
