Avianca is the commercial brand that represents the Latin American airlines integrated in Avianca Holdings S.A. Its workforce of over 19,000 employees have been recognized to provide an excellent  world class service. The Avianca airlines, specialized in air cargo and passenger transportation, serve more than 108 direct destinations in 26 countries throughout the American and European continents with its modern fleet of 189 short, medium, and long haul aircraft. 

Through its membership with Star Alliance​, Avianca offers the possibility to connect to more than 1,300 destinations in 191 countries globally. Through LifeMiles​, the loyalty program, the airline offers a wide range of benefits and travel options to its 7,2 million registered members.

  • On October 7th, 2009, Synergy Aerospace Corp. - owner of Avianca; and Kingsland Holding Limited, owner of TACA; made public their intention of merging the airlines together to strengthen their strategic position in the region and enhance their growth options in the industry.
  • In February 2010 investors formalized the strategic union of their businesses. The Grupo TACA includes the airlines TACA International and its stake in Lacsa, Taca Perú, Aviateca, Sansa, La Costeña and Isleña airlines. Avianca includes Avianca, Tampa Cargo and Avianca Ecuador S.A.
  • In 2010, after formalizing the integration of the group’s airlines, a rigorous administrative reorganization process was put into action, as well as the integration of route networks, standardization of processes and capture of synergies.
  • In March 2011 it launched the unified frequent flyer program, LifeMiles. To date this program has over 4.6 million members. On March 28 of the same year, AviancaTaca issued shares worth 500,000 million Colombian pesos. The demand for shares, with preferential dividend and no voting rights, exceeded 2.8 billion Colombian pesos, with the stock trading 5 times the offering price.
  • During 2011 it opened 12 new routes and increased flight services by 155 flights, flying to more than 100 destinations in the Americas and Europe with more than 4,000 flights a week.
  • In 2011 it put a plan to strengthen the freight business into action, which included the expansion of warehousing capacity both on the ground and in the air. As part of this plan it announced the acquisition of four A330-200 Freighter cargo aircraft, with capacity of up to 70 tons, which will come into operation starting December 2012.
  • In 2012, it signed an order for 51 A320 Neo aircraft with Airbus.
  • On June 21st, 2012, Avianca and TACA officially entered the Star Alliance network, the world's largest airline network in terms of daily flights, coverage and services, thereby multiplying the options and benefits to passengers.
  • On October 10th, 2012 it announced the adoption of the Avianca name as a unique commercial brand for the subsidiary airlines of AviancaTaca Holding S.A., Avianca, TACA, TACA International, TACA Regional, Tampa Cargo and Avianca Ecuador S.A.
  • During the General Meeting of Shareholders in March 2013 the name change of the holding from AviancaTaca Holding S.A. to Avianca Holdings S.A. was approved.
  • On May 28th, 2013 the new image of Avianca and Avianca Cargo for the group airlines was launched.
  • In November 2013, the holding firmly entered the international capital markets with the listing of its shares on the New York Stock Exchange.​
