International Communications and Corporate Affairs Director
Claudia Arenas became Director of Communications and Spokesperson for TACA in 1997. Before that, she served as the company’s Commercial Director. From her position, she oversees the company’s corporate communications strategy for new products and initiatives, in addition to participating in high-level meetings to develop and implement strategic plans and policies. As part of her oversight of the company’s communications activities, she organizes and executes press tours to Latin America and Europe. Prior to joining TACA, Arenas served as Secretary of Public Relations for the Office of the President of Guatemala and Spokesperson for the President of Guatemala from 1987 to 1990. Her previous experience also includes serving as Vice President of the Guatemala Chamber of Tourism (CAMTUR) and Director of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT). During her tenure, Guatemala’s profile as a tourist destination became more prominent in key markets throughout the world. Arenas has been a key presence in Guatemala’s marketing and communications circles. She was the Founder and First President of the Mundo Maya Organization; she also organized the First Summit of Presidents and Heads of States of member Mundo Maya countries (1993). In 1992, she co-authored a study on Sustainable Tourism Development through 2000. Arenas holds a degree in Marketing from Guatemala’s Rafael Landivar University and a graduate degree from the International Marketing Institute in Boston, Massachusetts.
