How can I fly with my pet?

  • Take your dog or your cat. If you are flying within Colombia, you can transport ornamental birds in the plane’s cabin. Roosters can travel in the hold as checked baggage.
  • You must have all permits and sanitary requirements from the locations of origin, connection and destinations. Please carry the sanitary inspection certificate.
  • Your four-legged friend must have a collar, leash and muzzle at the airport while it is outside of its container. It must also remain inside its bag or crate during the flight.
  • For additional information on requirements, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page regarding pets on board.

Where does your pet travel?

Depending on the animal’s characteristics, you may take it inside the cabin or in the plane’s hold as checked baggage.

Cabin

Travel with your pet weighing up to 8 kilograms (18 pounds)* and with a maximum height of 20 centimeters (8 inches).

During the flight, the animal must remain in a bag** made of waterproof fabric and with breathing holes. If you do not have one, you can buy it with us at some airports for USD 35 plus taxes.

In addition to your carry-on baggage, you may only carry one additional bag with a pet.

While traveling, place your pet under the seat in front of you.

This weight does not include the bag.

** Measurements should be 40.6 centimeters long + 27.9 centimeters wide + 20.3 centimeters high (length 16 inches + width 11 inches + height 8 inches).

Hold

On flights of up to 4 hours, your pet can weigh up to 20 kilograms (44 pounds). This weight does not include that of the container.

On flights of up to 5 hours, your pet must weigh a maximum of 10 kilograms (22 pounds). This weight does not include that of the container.

On an Airbus 330 or Boeing B787, regardless of the length of your flight, take your pet of up to 46 kilograms (101 pounds). This weight includes that of the container.*

You can only carry a pet in a closed container. Check these conditions to avoid setbacks.

Find out which breeds are known as brachycephalic and we will therefore not transport for the sake of the animal’s safety.

Check the conditions for the transport of roosters.

* When a passenger takes more than one flight to arrive at their destination and any of those flights are operated by a different aircraft than Airbus A330 or Boeing B787, the maximum weight restriction of 20 kg (not including weight of container) will be maintained for pets on flights of up to 4 hours, and 10 kg (not including weight of container) for pets on flights of up to 5 hours.
