- Over a five-year period, the airline increased its capacity by 18.1%. In 2025 alone, it carried nearly 37 million customers across more than 262,000 flights.
- Fleet modernization and simplification, with next-generation aircraft, enable reductions of up to 25% in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.
Bogotá, January 28, 2026 — On the occasion of International Reducing CO₂ Emissions Day, Avianca reaffirms its commitment to more efficient aviation, demonstrating that it is possible to expand access to air transport while reducing carbon intensity. The airline has achieved these results through concrete operational decisions, embedding sustainability at the core of its business model.
Between 2019 and 2024, Avianca increased its capacity by 18.1% (measured in available seat kilometers) while reducing its carbon intensity by 19.6%. According to Cirium, a global leader in aviation analytics, this performance positioned Avianca as the #1 airline worldwide for the largest capacity growth combined with the greatest reduction in carbon emissions.
A strategy focused on operational efficiency, fleet modernization, and network optimization
Avianca has modernized and simplified its fleet by incorporating next-generation aircraft such as the A320neo and the Boeing 787. According to manufacturers, these aircraft enable reductions of up to 25% in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared to previous generations
At the same time, the airline reconfigured its A320 aircraft, increasing seat density and enabling Avianca to expand access to air travel across a geographically complex region such as Latin America. In 2025 alone, the airline carried nearly 37 million customers across more than 262,000 flights.
In parallel, Avianca has strengthened its environmental performance and received international recognition for its climate management, including Cirium’s ranking and a “B” score from CDP for the sixth consecutive year.
