TSA regulation restricts transportation of powders on flights to or connecting with the United States

By request of the Transportation Safety Administration – TSA – as of June 30, 2018, a new security procedure will be implemented restricting transportation of powders in volumes that exceed 12 oz or 340 g.

By request of the Transportation Safety Administration – TSA – as of June 30, 2018, a new security procedure will be implemented restricting transportation of powders in volumes that exceed 12 oz or 340 g*.

In line with this regulation, travelers with flights to or connecting with the United States must take these items in their checked baggage. They must also consider the following:

  • Items that have been tampered with, have unusual weight, inconsistency if their content or are in poor condition will be reported to the local authorities and the TSA and will be retained and treated as hazardous merchandise.
  • Powder substances purchased at the airport Duty Free that exceed 12 oz or 340 g must be sealed in a Secure Tamper Evident bag (STEB).
  • Powders detected by Security on boarding gates cannot be transported at boarding gates may not be transported in carry-on baggage or as checked baggage.
