Everything you need to know about checking in

Check in 24 hours before the flight. Depending on the airport, review the minimum time to check in, register baggage and arrive at the boarding lounge.

You must print your boarding pass in a high-quality format, making sure that the barcode is legible. This way, you’ll avoid issues at the airport.

Passengers traveling with infants and children

  • When you are traveling with infants, remember that when checking in, your ticket must be associated with your booking. Remember that all infants must have their own ticket without exception.
  • When checking in children between 2 and 11 years of age, you must have the details of an adult passenger associated with the booking.
  • If you are traveling with infants, the web check-in and mobile check-in service is only enabled if you have an associated booking number. Contact our call center for more information.


Passengers with baggage

  • Passengers traveling with baggage to be checked in must go to the baggage drop-off module at the airport.
  • It is forbidden to carry dangerous goods in your carry-on baggage.
  • Even if you’re not present, authorities can open and inspect your suitcases. This can happen even if your baggage is laminated. If the plastic is cut or removed, remember that we, as an airline, are not responsible for this inspection. 
  • If you are traveling with a connection, remember that your baggage will be checked in up to the final destination of your trip only if all flights are part of a single transportation agreement. In other words, if they’re registered in a single ticket. Otherwise, when making the transfer, you must pick up your baggage and again check in for the next flight. Before your trip, we recommend you check the baggage policy of each airline you plan on flying with.


Legal documents and restrictions

  • Don’t forget to keep the legal travel documents required by government authorities handy.
  • The information entered in our check-in platform is the sole responsibility of the user. 
  • The passenger shall bear any fines and additional expenses from customs and migratory authorities.
  • Passengers who have purchased a ticket through actions or transactions showing signs of fraud, may suffer the cancellation of their flight and be subject to prosecution under the applicable criminal laws.


Passengers on flights with layovers

  • If you have flights with layovers, check in electronically (web check-in, mobile check-in or kiosk check-in) only in cities where the service is available.
  • If you have a connection with another airline, get your boarding pass to the final destination via web check-in or auto check-in.

This service is available for:

  • Travelers with a confirmed booking and issued ticket.
  • Disabled travelers with a confirmed booking and issued ticket.
  • Special service bookings, such as pre-assignment of seats and special meals.
  • Electronic tickets.
  • Simultaneous registration of a maximum of 9 people.
  • Tickets in any Class or with Class upgrades.
  • Flights with a shared code, operated by Avianca.

This service is NOT available for:

  • Bookings that pay any penalty.
  • Bookings that include certain special services, such as unaccompanied minors, pets in the cabin, and transportation of deportees with and without a companion.
  • Passangers carrying portable dialysis equipment or oxygen concentrators.​​
  • Flights with a shared code, operated by another airline.
  • Passengers carrying firearms.
  • Printed tickets.

Save time with our available electronic check-in options, 24 hours before your flight, or if you prefer, come to one of our counters at the airport.​​

Mobile check-in

Remember that at the time of mobile check-in, your boarding pass will be displayed directly on your smartphone and you do not need to print it. Simply present it from your phone in the airport module or in the boarding lounge, as appropriate.

Use mobile check-in by downloading our application for free, or visit from your smartphone and access all the tools and benefits we’ve designed for you. 

  1. Enter the Avianca application on your smartphone or visit from your browser and select the Check In option.
  2. Enter your booking code or ticket number and complete the information requested.
  3. When you are finished, you will get your mobile boarding pass. You don’t need to print it. 
  4. Show your boarding pass on your cell phone directly in the boarding lounge.

Service availability

  • The service is not enabled for domestic flights in Brazil. 
  • For flights with a shared code or flights that are not operated by one of the airlines belonging to Avianca Holdings S.A. (Avianca, TACA International, TACA Perú, Lacsa or Avianca Ecuador S.A.), the service is not available.

Printed boarding pass

By orders of the authorities, in Asuncion, Cancun, Havana, Porto Alegre, Punta Cana, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Cruz de La Sierra and Santo Domingo, it is mandatory to carry this printed document.

  • Always keep your boarding pass visible to present it at each of the security checkpoints, the boarding lounge and when entering the aircraft. 
  • If you have any issues with your cell phone when arriving at the airport and you are not able present the boarding pass, you can print it in one of the airport kiosks or go to the service module. 
  • If you did not save or lost the boarding pass on your cell phone, re-enter Mobile Check In, where you will find it in the lower section of the page. Otherwise, re-enter your information and you will get it immediately.
  • If you are traveling alone with carry-on baggage, remember to introduce yourself at the security checkpoint with your identification document and boarding pass. 
  • Keep in mind the arrival times in the Airport and the free baggage allowance policy
  • If you have any baggage to check in, you must go to the counter to check it in. We have an exclusive line for this purpose, identified as "baggage drop-off". 
  • We have our associates available at the airport to guide you during the check-in process at kiosks, on your cell phone or in the service modules.

An easy and quick way to check in at the airport.

  1. Enter the system 
  2. Accept that you know the information about dangerous goods 
  3. Select and enter your identification method 
  4. Confirm the passenger name and choose your seat 
  5. Enter the requested details and contact information in case of emergency 
  6. Record the number of bags and print your Bag Tag (maximum of two per passenger)


Print your boarding pass in just a few seconds

When you arrive at the airport, you can go directly to the self-service kiosks to check in with the people you are traveling with.

s:Once you are in front of the kiosk, you can identify yourself by entering any of the following information in the system:

  • Booking code.
  • Electronic ticket number.
  • Frequent flyer number*.
  • Credit card number you used to make the payment*.
In addition, you can scan the following:​
  • Your passport barcode.
  • The boarding pass you received when checking in electronically.


All self-service channels have the following service hours:

  • In flights within Colombia, between 24 hours and 345 minutes before flight departure.
  • In flights within Peru, between 24 hours and 45 minutes before flight departure.
  • In other routes, between 24 hours and 1 hour before flight departure.

For your return or connection flights, you can use the self-service check-in service at kiosks 16 hours after your outbound flight.

*If you have previously checked it in at the time of purchase.

How do you print your Bag Tag?

After confirming your details, you can print the Bag Tags for your bags* and go directly to the baggage drop-off modules.

  • Choose the Baggage to check option.
  • With the + button, choose the number of Bag Tags you need for your baggage (maximum of two per passenger).
  • When you have chosen the number of bags, click Continue to print the Bag Tags of your baggage.
  • You must attach the Bag Tags to your bags and go to the Baggage Drop-Off or check-in line to drop off your bags.
  • Keep in mind that if you have more than two bags, you should go directly to the counter to check in. .

*Applies only to kiosks that have Bag Tag printers. The service is available at the Cali, London, Quito and Toronto airports..


There are situations in which you cannot use check-in kiosks. In these cases, you must contact the call center or request service in the airport modules.

Check-in at kiosks cannot be used when you:

  • Need to pay a penalty.
  • Request special services.
  • Have a flight using a shared code with another airline.
  • Travel with dangerous goods.
  • Are a passenger classified with the AQQ or BPPR status. These type of passengers should be subject to an additional security process. Because, according to their names, date of birth and/or passport, they may be under investigation by the U.S. authorities.

Check in when you arrive at the airport, taking into account the established times for domestic and international flights. You only have to go to one of our counters with all your documentation and in minutes you’ll have your baggage checked and your boarding pass.


  • Baggage: Make sure your baggage is free of items not allowed before checking in, thus avoiding issues and delays.
  • Arrivals on time: For international destinations, you must show up at the counter at least 3 hours before flight departure. For domestic destinations, you must show up 1 hour in advance.
  • Personal documents: Keep your identification document or immigration documents on hand (if applicable).
  • LifeMiles card: If you are part of our frequent flyer plan, present your LifeMiles card to accumulate more miles.
  • Boarding pass: If you haven't checked in by other means, get your boarding pass indicating your flight number, seat number, gate number and boarding start time.
