Medellin, March 5, 2025. As part of its commitment to excellence, and the growth and development of the best local talent, Avianca held a new edition of the Avianca Maintenance Masters Competition in Rionegro, Antioquia.
Each year, this competition aims to select the team that will represent the airline and Colombia at the Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC), the most prestigious event in the industry globally, which this year will be held in Atlanta, United States.
The selection of the teams was carried out in two stages. In the first stage, participants underwent a series of technical tests that served as an initial filter. In the second stage, the qualified teams competed in the practical phase, which took place at the Aeronautical Maintenance Center (MRO) in Rionegro. There, participants demonstrated their skills, testing their knowledge, dexterity and ability to solve challenges in real conditions and record time.
The selected team, composed of Michael Trejos Cardona, Helbert Montes Zuluaga, Juan Pablo Bernal Rodríguez, Orlando Lozano Henao and Jorge Andrés Campo will soon arrive at the Aerospace Maintenance Competition 2025 to represent Avianca and all of Colombia. This competition will bring together commercial, general, military and educational aviation teams in a circuit of tests designed to evaluate technical skills in aeronautical maintenance.
"The Aerospace Maintenance Competition is a world-class scenario that allows us to demonstrate the quality and technical level of our teams. Through Avianca Maintenance Masters, we select the best aeronautical maintenance talent to compete with professionals from around the world, reaffirming our commitment to safety and innovation in the industry," said Francisco Lalinde, Avianca's vice president of Engineering and Maintenance.
New 2025: Opportunities for emerging talent
This year, in line with its commitment to training new talent, Avianca included an Amateur category within the competition. In this category, students from aeronautical maintenance schools and faculties were able to participate and live the experience of the competition.
With this initiative, Avianca seeks to strengthen the connection with future generations of technicians and open opportunities for those who wish to enter an exciting industry such as aviation.
