Avianca, the first airline in Latin America to earn the Aequales Certification in equity and inclusion
- The certification, awarded by Aequales, a leading consultancy in the region, is a result of the airline’s commitment to building a company culture where everyone feels respected, valued, and authentic.
- Thus, avianca becomes the only airline in Latin America to achieve this recognition for its policies, processes, and actions in support of equity and inclusion.
Bogotá, November 11. For the first time, avianca has received the Aequales Certification, making it the only airline in Latin America to achieve this recognition for its policies, processes, and actions in support of equity and inclusion.
The certification, awarded by Aequales, a leading consultancy in the region, is a result of the airline’s commitment to building a company culture where everyone feels respected, valued, and authentic, thus driving talent development under conditions of equal opportunity.
Initiatives that support this recognition include:
- Parity in executive positions: today 48% of executive positions at avianca are held by women.
- More women pilots in the airline industry: in 2023, the first class of exclusively women pilots in avianca’s history graduated, and the scholarship program “The Sky is Theirs” was launched, with 100% funding, 20 spots, and employment opportunities at the airline. Today, more than 150 women pilots are part of the company.
- Diversity and inclusion in the workplace: alliances such as Best Buddies allow the inclusion of people with cognitive disabilities in areas of customer service, Avianca Cargo, and Deprisa.
- Pay equality: the company uses the Hay Group method to ensure compensation is based on job responsibilities and not gender.
- Comprehensive wellness: programs such as Well, Families on board, and Day Care offer support for physical, mental, and financial health, parental support, breastfeeding rooms, as well as the prevention of gender-based and intrafamily violence.
- Accessibility: through avianca accessible, the company implements protocols, training, and infrastructure improvements to ensure inclusive travel experiences for people with disabilities.
“Being the first airline in Latin America to achieve Aequales Certification is confirmation that at avianca we continue to build a culture where everyone feels welcome, heard, and valued. This certification reflects our commitment to an ongoing process of creating spaces where everyone can be authentic, grow, and bring their best, because when companies care for and listen to their team members, we fly higher and create opportunities for all.” said Maria Carolina Cortés, avianca’s Vice President of Corporate Communications and Reputation.
