Bogotá, October 28, 2025. As part of its international expansion strategy, avianca announced the start of operations for two new routes that will directly connect Bogotá with Monterrey, in Mexico, and Belém, in Brazil. Both routes are operated with Airbus A320 aircraft, with capacity for 180 passengers, reaffirming the airline’s commitment to the growth of air connectivity in Latin America.
“The start of these two new operations reflects our commitment to strengthening air connectivity in Latin America. With Monterrey, we strengthen our presence in the Mexican market while opening an unprecedented gateway between Colombia and northern Brazil, with our route to Belém. We continue to work to connect people, cultures, and business opportunities across the region with an increasingly robust and efficient network,” stated Frederico Pedreira, CEO of avianca.
“The opening of these new international air routes reinforces Colombia’s position as a strategic hub for Latin America. Through partnerships with airlines like avianca, we continue to strengthen the country’s connectivity with key markets like Mexico and Brazil, driving tourism, business, and cultural exchange. Every new route is an opportunity to show the world why Colombia is the country of beauty,” said Carmen Caballero, President of ProColombia.
The new Bogotá–Monterrey route, which began operating on October 26, will offer four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with a total offer of more than 1,400 seats per week. This operation expands avianca’s presence in Mexico, where it already has eight international routes connecting Bogotá, San Salvador, and San José to key destinations such as Mexico City and Cancún.
The Secretary of Tourism of Nuevo León, Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal, highlighted the significance of this new connection within the state’s air connectivity strategy: “With this route, Nuevo León strengthens its relationship with South America, boosts tourism, and expands its international presence ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Today, our airport has more than 60 active routes and is already the second airport with the most domestic flights in Mexico, reflecting the dynamism and confidence that our state generates.”
For its part, since October 27, avianca connected Belém and Bogotá for the first time, with three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from the Brazilian city, and on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from the Colombian capital. With more than 1,000 seats available per week, this route represents a new milestone for the airline, as it connects northern Brazil with more than 80 destinations in the Americas and Europe through Bogotá.
“The direct connection between Bogotá and Belém is a strategic achievement for Brazilian tourism and the result of a strong collaboration between Embratur and the airlines that serve Brazil. Each new route represents a specific opportunity to bring cultures closer together, create employment, and drive sustainable development. This connection enhances the arrival of international visitors to the Amazon and comes at a key moment, with the COP30 in Belém approaching, showing the world a sustainable, diverse Brazil committed to the future of the planet,” stated Marcelo Freixo, President of Embratur.
With these additions, avianca continues to add to the international routes opened in 2025, consolidating its position as one of the airlines with the most coverage on the continent, offering travelers more options to fly directly, with competitive prices and an experience tailored to their needs.
